Kodiak Bull, I agree almost entirely with your post, except for the business about paying off the debt. Actually, the overall debt is not being reduced, just the portion held by the public. The debt is being transferred to other accounts within the government, such as Social Security Trust Fund, and the Government Employees Retirement Fund. The Republicans do not believe in democracy any more than the Democrats. Republicans have been the moving force behind so called "tort reform" designed to make it much more difficult for injured parties to collect damages from corporations. They are even more beholden to powerful interests than the Democrats.

Both parties only believe in democracy when it benefits their financial backers. Both are totally hypocritical in this regard.

Since the Republicans are certainly more pro-energy industry than the Democrats, I can understand why most here support them. But lets not pretend that morality has anything to do with it.

OT:
Come on kb, don't sugar coat it! Tell us lake-front liberals what you really think<vbg>.

But seriously, after W gets in office we will see how the future shapes under his leadership. He will have an opportunity that few presidents have had and time will tell where the country will be in 4 or 8 years.

I had a hard time deciding who to vote for because like many, I think we just had to vote for 2 of the worst candidates ever presented to the country at the same time. While I don't believe W is 'duhW', I do seriously question the man's ability to express himself under pressure and this gives me the impression that he boarders on being illiterate. I have serious concerns about the man making an ass of himself during a time of crisis, saying something so goofy or having a slip of the tongue which will be translated by an interpreter the wrong way and causing a delicate situation to get worse. I truly hope that my impression of him is just that, an erroneous impression.

As to the individual failings of our past administrations, I think we could easily shred every one to bits based on huge mistakes each has made. BTW, I believe it was Ike who originally got us into Vietnam (not that Kennedy or Johnson did anything to 'fix' the situation).

Now let's get back to the 'true' purpose of this thread....to make some money on the patch and share views on the market!!!

( just like the politicians....do as I say, not as I do<g>)
