Some historical max-pain observations..
The iq database at
iqauto.com
gives the figures from Sept's and Oct's expirations.

I created the table below from their max pain figures and my qqq price chart.

* = Friday expiration
qqq range max-pain level

sept 14 92 to 96 95
sept 15* 90 to 93 95
sept 18 88 to 94 95

oct 19 81 to 85 83
oct 20* 84 to 87 83
oct 23 84 to 87 83

>>> Am I doing this correctly? <<<

I'm sure you are. I hold the Dec Calls, so I was thinking about Dec, and that is what is at 84.

Seems all irrelevant right now, though, since the Naz tanked a lot more than I anticipated today. I suppose it is possible to have a strong rally tomorrow, but I figure the put holders will win this one hands down, unless there is some sort of resolution on the prez election.

Still, either candidate in his own way will ultimately be positive for the market.
