Prof.com,
Actually, Sony's announced plan is to be back on schedule for 3.0M PS2's shipped into North America by the end of their (SNE) next Quarter ending March 2001. You can understand that with only 500,000 units at launch, Sony will need to ramp production and distribution significantly to accomplish their goal. If they do, I have no doubt that GTR will benefit greatly. I read recently that Sony's video game division (via the installed base of the original PlayStation) contributes about 40% to Sony's bottom line profitability....and so, this is much to important to Sony's financial well being for them to not perform. Especially since they will only have a 10 or 11 month head start on Microsoft's X-box and Nintendo's Game Cube. Bottom line here is that no matter who comes out the winner in the console battle...GTR can only benefit. The larger the installed base the more people clamoring for memory cards, controllers and eventually a whole new source for pre-owned games. Gotta luv the prospects looking forward. Lots and lots of upside potential!!!
