Without an official confirmation from the state as to the popular vote, the electors of the state would then have no voice in the national vote. This is the law defining the electors throughout the country. With Florida's 25 votes
out of the count, neither candidate can get the required 270. Congress then picks a winner and if that's deadlocked
( say the senate has a 50/50 tie), it gets real confusing but I've heard the Speaker of the house then assumes the
presidency. I've also heard that it's possible that Cheney gets to be president and Lieberman assumes the vice presidency. (ng)

The question is whether 270 remains the required majority number when Florida's votes are ignored. If the total is 538 with Florida, it would be 513 without Florida, and 257 would be the required number of electoral votes. This is not clearly decided at this point.
