Because their marketing arm thinks they can get away with it. They probably can at 1.5GHz. They probably can't at 1.4 GHz. Now..... they could be wrong, but I doubt it. Like Saturn says, it's to maximize profits.

Much like your thinking, it looks like you plan on doing yesterdays computing. In that case buy yesterdays computer. As for the benchmarks, any that show Intel losing are obviously invalid because of confusion. Perhaps Intel will demand a recount until they get the results they like?
