"...Intel's new Pentium 4 "Willamette" processor (Willy for short) will become public news: it's really ,b>not worth buying. At a clock speed of 1.5 GHz, it's barely faster than a Pentium 3 at 1 GHz. Intel, in short, has a little Willy..."

Milo,

I hope this is the beginning of a number of articles neutralizing the P4 effect. Do you know this guy? Is he fairly objective?

Willy is Limp and the World Knows it!

I would put this into the category of "P4 disappoints" :^)
And we thought it might take a couple of days for the truth to out!

milo:

After all the hype, the P4 initial offering sounds like a bit of a lame duck...which, if true, and I'm certainly not ruling that out as a possibility, then INTC's lineup includes Kmart Celery Blue light Special, an aging PWeeiii architecture that has reached its limit at 1 gig, and a "lame duck" P4 new competitor...Can't wait to see the comparative benchmarks on Monday...If indeed, the P4 is a wussy, as early indicators are suggesting, then AMD'll have the 1 gig and up market to itself...An enviable position and one that will ensure a continuation in the string of record breaking revenues and earnings throughout Y2001 as ASP's and units shipped can only increase in the face of such seeming anaemic competition...all translating into a firming in AMD price vis a vis INTC begining perhaps by the end of next week once the P4 hype is digested and the reality of its anaemic(?) performance sinks in...AMD has the goods with the 1.2 gig Athy/DDR combo and this P4 doesn't look like it can cut it head to head...Wonder what Dell's thinking right about now!
