Elmer - RE: "I asked you how many benchmarks measure the performance of a word processor while it is decrypting a 1024 bit DES encoded file and simultaniously downloading and playing a music video. That's a modest example of tomorrow's computing experience."

None that I know of. That IS an intensive load on the processor. And you think the P4 would be the best for this specific situation?

"No need to get insulting. <g>"

At least we agree on one thing - Bush. ;) He's gained 352 absentee votes over Gore with 4 counties to go. That brings the lead to 652 votes. I wonder if 652 chads will "accidently" fall out by Monday...

Elmer, Re: I asked you how many benchmarks measure the performance of a word processor while it is decrypting a 1024 bit DES encoded file and simultaniously downloading and playing a music video. That's a modest example of tomorrow's computing experience.

So playing Unreal: Tournament without decrypting a 1024 bit file in background is yesterday's computing?

Benchmark P4 1.6 P4 1.5 P4 1.4 K7 1.2 (DDR) K7 1.2 (PC133)

Unreal: Tourn. 49.3 47.4 45.9 50.6 44.7

This is an official benchmark from c't which will be released on Monday after the NDA expires. The resolution is 640x480x16 tested on a GeForce 2 GTS card. I wonder how many gamers are decrypting files or working simultaneously on a word document while playing?
