I disagree with the principal that they are inalienable for any greater reason than that the writers of the document SAY they are inalienable. There are only inalienable rights as long as we agree they are, in other words. It's just a piece of paper with some words on it- what gives it power is that people agree to be bound by those words. When people cease to wish to be bound by the constitution, those rights in it won't be worth the paper they are written on.
