You're right. Whoever the winner is they're in for a difficult time. Half the country will indeed consider them a thief, unless Bush clearly wins the totals here even after the three counties are re-counted. Right now he's ahead by 900. That's a pretty good margin. For now at least. But if it's very-very close or if Gore goes ahead then yes either man will be called a thief by the paranoid partisans on the other side. At this point however, with all the bi-partisan microscopic attention on each count, it's impossible to do anything but play fair.

I agree that either "winner" will have their problems. However, I do think that these acts by Gore will motivate a
population to become involved in politics. I will be volunteering for service with the Republican Party. I am incensed by the Democratic actions in Florida. It's time that I do something for the future of the GOP. I hope this motivates others as well to stop being the silent majority and get to work. The battle has just begun and it's time for people who feel the same way to get involved.

Are you sure the U.S. will survive either way? All great civilizations have crumbled in the past. No one knows for sure what was the exact turning point in those cases, and hopefully we are hundreds of years from having to wonder about that. But surely the "O.J.afying" of a presidential election is not a sign that we are getting stronger as a nation.

I believe most Americans will consider the facts; The Florida vote came within the window that required a recount. Bush won the first vote and then he won the second count. At that point the result was Bush won excepting to wait for the absentee ballots to be counted within the 10 day window. Gore, violating every code of ethics historically and by his predecessors, chose to loose his hounds on the state. He sent Daley and Christopher down and started threatening lawsuits, wanting recounts, etc.. Bush did nothing to precipitate these actions. Bush was prepared to follow the code of decorum and wait for the final count as has been historically done and accept the result. The absolute catalyst for this possible Constitutional Crisis is Al Gore. He deserves the contempt of the American people for what he is doing to our Republic.

I agree that either side will post on why the other should have lost.

I disagree about the happy as president comment. Gore will only be happy if he is president, regardless of the actions that got him there. In a fair win there are always going to be people that don't want you there. I think the skin is thicker here than we might think.

By March of 2001 this story will be so dead you won't hear about it until the news showed recap the year in December.
