Great post, Lance.

Welll I was gonna write a big long response to add on to what you said .... but I didn't want to come off as too self-righteous.

I'm no better than anyone else. I immediately judge someone capable of "zealous hatred" as a person I should avoid.

To answer your three questions, we donate money, food and toys, every year. But I don't donate any time ... except to our public school system. We have a pretty active PTA, lol. Something for you to think about in 4 or 5 years from now.

We have homeless people here too. Back when my kids were younger, we'd take the subway to the Smithsonian and they'd want me to give $1 to EVERY homeless person we saw. Try rationalizing to a 6 year old why you're so reluctant to give $1 to every person with their hand out. It ain't easy -- especially when they see $60 in your wallet. I eventually got the to believe the "I don't have any more $1 bills or loose change" line.

Take care,
Chris

OT. I have no problem with programs that help those in need when they DESERVE to be helped. Kids should always receive assistance when they need it. I do have a problem with providing for lazy a-- adults who want a free ride or pumping money into programs that are targeted specifically for certain races.

As for the death penalty, I feel there is need for improvement. We need to make it much easier and less expensive to put criminals, who need to be dead, to death. Simple as that. Anyone who believes abortion and executing a vicious criminal are one of the same is one sick puppy!

John said it well: The bleeding heart liberals would sing a different toon if a loved one was viciously murdered then the mudererer went to prison and spent thousands of taxpayers $$$ by the state maintaining his existence and lets not forget paying all his legal fees for the many lawsuits he files because his RIGHTS are being violated.

Some peoples kids! SHEESH!

Wow Lance... This coming from someone who lives in a democratic stronghold otherwise known as one of the big three in FL (Broward County)

My opinion is: Abortion is not and should not be a political issue. I am sick to death with candidates for public office being judged on whether they are pro-choice or pro-life.

All these pro-choice/pro life activists don't have enough going on in their lives that they have to impose their will on the the rest of us.

As for people having drinking/drug problems or other past mistakes... especially when it was years ago: Let he/she who is without sin cast the first stone. We all make mistakes, especially in our youthful years. Its part of growing up.

Judgemental people often times spend a lot of time judging others because they feel insecure about themselves in their own lives.

Another great saying I like: "Clean up your own backyard before approaching the neighbors about the crap they have laying around in their yards." (or something to that effect)

I am registered Republican but decide my own issues independently.

Tom

Lance, that's a hell of a question...so what's the answer?

"...DOES ANYONE HERE SEND 1.00 A DAY TO THE CHRISTIAN FAMILY FUND TO HELP FEED
THOSE STARVING CHILDREN I SEE ON T.V ALL THE TIME..DOES ANYONE HERE VOLUNTEER
TO FEED THE HUNGRY ON THANKSGIVING...CHRSITMAS DO YOU DELIVER TOYS TO THE
KIDS IN THE HOSPITAL..."

It's easy to bitch about politics while we're well fed and sitting in our comfortable homes...
Give this some thought once you've finished your turkey and you're
watching the Vikings play the Cowboys over the Thanksgiving holiday...

This is a quote from a letter from my 9 year old "adopted daughter" in Thailand...

"...thank you for the $4.00 American...I will use it to buy clothes and save the rest for my education....
it is harvest season here and school is out...I will go to help my parents in the rice fields before the rains come...
may God bless you and your family always...your sponsored child...Chamaipom Kamgau..."

The Christian Childrens Fund is one of the easiest ways you'll ever find to help someone...
We usually send a few extra bucks each month and often receive
a personal letter from our sponsored child thanking us for the few extra dollars...
Any money sent above the agreed amount is given directly to the childs' family...

If you'd rather help some one in this hemisphere, I can highly recommend
The Salvation Army...they help a lot of people today, just as they have for generations....

"...it's not a matter of being 'goody goody', but of being good 'FOR' something..." Edgar Cayce...

"...resist not evil, but overcome evil with good..." J. Christ

Christians, Jews, and Moslems, all accept Jesus as a great
teacher and prophet....and he taught simple things...

Luke 6:37-38
"Judge not and you will not be judged...
Condemn not and you will not be condemned...
Forgive and you shall be forgiven..."
Give, and it shall be given unto you; good measure,
pressed down, and shaken together, and running over
will be put in your lap. For with the same measure
that you give, it shall be measured to you again..."

I'm not a preacher or a scholar, but what it says to me is...
"...you want to know what's in store for you hereafter...?
all you have to look at is "what did you decide to do"...!"

I'm sorry to sound "preachy," but this hits a bit close to home...
I really don't think my vote counts for very much...
There were politicians before Pontius Pilot, and they'll be more after Gore and Bush....
All good talkers, looking for a job...serving mostly themselves...

But, when it comes to everyday life on this planet... and a 9 year old girl
who will be up to her knees in a rice paddy while I'm eating turkey...
I like to think I've been a little good "FOR" something...
fwiw

I donate well into 5 figures every year, and almost all of it goes to feed hungry children. I also donate loads of toys for tots, and usually have a few of the poor and elderly over for Thanksgiving. All that having been said, my opinion on abortion has not changed. I don't like it, I think it is an AWFUL method of birth control, and I am personally opposed ot it, especially after the first tri-mester. I will not, otoh, support any person or institution that attempts to formulate my personal opinion into law.
