OT> Vickie, respectfully. . we say the same thing with different words and perspectives. This has been true on most of the discussions on here the past few weeks.

I am not the least bit concerned about the partisan divide of the U.S. That is good. I am concerned about the cultural divide. I thought I made that clear. I was at an event yesterday with 60 other men. It was obvious to all which were from the country and which were from the city. And wouldn't you know that the guys from the city congregated in one area, while those from the country collected in another. [Being a city boy living in the country, I gathered by the fire. . . I ain't dumb] And while I have never known a time where there wasn't this sort of tension between these cultures, never before did views surface so easily. . .as frustrated men vocalized their opinions.

Yesterday was different. The political jokes offered up had a bite meant to ATTACK the other group, as though they were idiots. Again, I am concerned that we get a president, ANY president elected quickly. Because I believe that if we were to drag this election out past Christmas as many have suggested, that this cultural divide would broaden. [Remember the story of the New Yorker thrown off the train in Alabama earlier this week? I feel as though 2 months ago that simply would not have happened]

Anyway, the point I am trying to make is that just because the country "usually" re-unites once a president takes office, does not mean that it will this time. The longer this thing drags out and the more media coverage it gets, the more time the people have to work themselves up into a frenzy. . . which we have already seen by some of the protests. And the crux of my concern is that other foreign elements that live to see America fail may SEE this division as some sort of opportunity that they can exploit. THAT would be most unfortunate.

Now of course I hope that everyone will just relax and let the law of the land prevail. But my concern is that we won't. . . and that this cultural war will escalate.

Yes, I fully respect your opinion, Vickie. And you are certainly welcome to disagree with anything that I say. . . as is anyone. I think we believe similarly. Forgive me for not expressing my opinions clearly enough.

My personal political beliefs are complex. I too love America and am not interested in living "under any other government or country" [as you put it]. And I too am happy that my vote counts. But I am extremely unhappy with the way our political system has evolved. I don't believe it has the peoples best interest at heart, nor this countries best interest. But rather is basking in the unfairness that is keeping the two major parties so dominant in their power.

A candidate that is not groomed by either the Republican or Democratic party hasn't a chance of ever being elected under the current political system. . .especially with the role the media plays in elections.

I would like to take the media OUT of the equation altogether. I have said many times before that every single political word uttered by a journalist or other person should be accompanied by a political stance disclaimer from the journalist/guest, etc. This could be done in any number of ways. . .but is the only FAIR to the population of the U.S. . . many of which are extremely impressionable and simple of mind.

So if a Republican journalist gave a 30 second opinion on ANYTHING political, then 30 seconds should be given for a Democrat opinion and 30 seconds should be given to one of the alternative party opinions. EVERY SINGLE TIME! And if this makes politics far more difficult to cover, then it is far more difficult to cover.

I would also like to see the fund raising methods completely reformed to make it fair and equal for ALL PERSONS wishing to run for president.

I realize that these few ideas [of the many related ones I have] have a near-zero chance of ever becoming reality. And THAT is the corrupt element about politics that I dislike the most!!

Thanks for stimulating this issue. . it has been fun.

Actually an interesting fact is that only about half of the people eligible to vote are registered, and of those, only about 70% actually voted. So the reality of the situation here is that no matter which of these idiots actually gets put into office, he will only have been supported by about 20% of the population of the country. FWIW. he will only have been opposed by about 20% of the population, and the vast majority will not have voiced an opinion at all. But I can guarantee you that more than 20% of the people in this country are flat out pissed at this situation.

Edit: so therefore, my conclusion is that there are many more people "pissed off, angry, infuriated," with both candidated, than ever supported either one of them to begin with..
