The key is to think like an attorney that doesn't care whether or not his client is innocent or guilty. Gore's legal team looks at every single legal implication of every single thing he says, way before he says it, and way before whatever he is talking about actually happens. One of the possibilities of their assault on the Constitution is that the Florida election will go to the Florida Supreme Court. One of the possibilities (indeed, a strong possibility) is that the FSC will adjudicate to end this dispute by ordering a state wide hand recount. The winner of that recount takes Florida. That way, Florida has done its duty and the Electoral College thing goes to the feds. Gore's lawyers see that they can play this angle and dupe you. Knowing that Gore has no authority to order a hand recount, and knowing that Bush couldn't comply if Gore made his bogus offer after the legal deadline, then Gore appears to be willing to be pals and drop by George's house for tea and cookies. Gore's lawyers plan this because they know that their overall plan must take into account the fact that their attack on the Constitution will probably piss a bunch of people off. In this particular scenario, once the people get pissed off, Gore can come out after the recount deadline has expired and offer up some calm and soothing rhetoric, wave his hands in front of the camera, and hopefully make Bush look like the bad guy. Gore gets some excellent press, the media plays it for several days, and you, TigerPaw, latch onto it! It's the "best way to end the crisis." Is it workable? You bet! Gore has nothing to lose, because its all political public relations horseshit. And it is possible that George will fall for it, since the Gore lawyers "know" George is a moron. It's possible that the Florida Supreme Court is watching TV too! Zero downside risk! What's a potential result of all this? If the Florida Supreme Court does come out and order a statewide recount, Gore's attorneys go on TV, and you come on this thread, and announce to me that Gore's offer "has been affirmed by the Florida Supreme Court"! Bush was an idiot for not accepting it a week ago, the recount would be a week faster, this would all be over sooner, blah, blah, blah. You need to step up a notch or two and wipe your eyes. These guys you are defending don't care about you. They care about themselves. Screw the law, we are going to win at any cost. There are some people that doesn't work on. I am one of them. Any idea what will happen in Atlanta?
