Pierre - I understand your "shock"...but its not something that I didn't post about over a year ago. Historically the one thing the cellular companies don't want to talk about (as well as paging companies, etc) is holes in their coverage. Having been in the biz for *gasp* about 13 years - it's damn hard enough to get a "true" coverage map from cellular/paging companies - and having been involved with G*/GUSA for months now - it's equally difficult. I was ridiculed and dissed on the boards for being short-sighted and wrong in regards to the SPs handling the marketing...got many posts saying that AirTouch/et al was a goldmine of leads and pre-market leads because of their customer base....uh huh...right.

When I posted that AirTouch cellular reps were being "rewarded" for G* sales with the INCREDIBLE commission of $50 per phone - posts were made that "well - hey - if they sell 10 G* phones - that's $500..." *LOL*

I don't think I have to remind you of my posts regarding AirTouch/Verizon marketing of G*...it's just not happening. On the bright side - seeing Globalstar itself grab hold of the slack marketing reins is a positive - but it's going to take lots more than 10 second commercials.

My pre-approved announcement of the Australian roaming about 4 days prior to the Olympics was probably the most you heard of that improvement in coverage - and where did it get us? In fact - I heard thru a 3rd party that G*USA was pissed that I let the cat out of the bag the friday prior to the Monday announcement....*LOL*

The SP's prime focus for marketing is cellular. They will lead and push cellular. My contacts with Verizon have told me that they've been told not to push marketing G* - to concentrate on their quota - and Verizon's "International Traveler" product marketing (which seems damn similar to GTE's Global Phone product - and I'm an expert in the drawbacks of that product)

Am I dissatisfied and disappointed in my association with G*? Yes - I've been without a phone for 3 weeks now as I had to send it back to have the software upgraded to data-capable...I've had to cancel several appointments because - hey, novel idea - the customer expects a demo. I lost a 28 phone account that was a 98% done deal due to the fact that G* management alluded to "FREE PHONES" and - of course - my proposal included costs for hardware (the phones).

As I've talked to Maurice about - there's a mindset of an "Idea du jour" and it doesn't last longer nor does anyone take responsiblity for anything over 24 hours.

I feel sure that G* can be a success....but it's damn frustrating when you're on the front lines and you have the front office emptying your ammo supply while you take aim.
