For the first sentence in your response, I certainly know that I'm a liberal and and that was something I believed before the Cold War was lost by the Soviets. I don't feel like searching out liberal economic assessments with time stamps prior to 1980 of the Soviet economic system to prove the point, perhaps you would like to find or refer me to those assessments that prove your point. But let me pick up that which you and I agree appear to agree on, i.e., that the Soviet economic system was a failure and doomed to collapse [and what you seem to imply that was a view of conservative economists]. Does that not lead to the conclusion the no Administration won the Cold War but the Soviets lost the Cold War? Perhaps I've misterpreted what you have said, i.e., you might believe that the Soviet economic system was not a failed one, but Reagan won the Cold War? Which one is it? On your second sentence: I thought we were talking about China policy and I'm used to people/historians referring to the Cold War as related to the Soviet Union, so I'm a tad puzzled. Did you switch subjects to the Soviet Union or are we still on China? In either case how did Nixon turn around [which implies we were losing, BTW] the Cold War? Since Sir Winston died in 1965, it would be pretty hard to claim with any certainty at all what he might have said. I can check with my next door neighbors for their opinion but checking with Sir Winston is a tough challenge. I would constructively suggest that you dispense with such non-provable claims.
