All,

I want to throw out a thought. There only has to be one assumption made to present this argument: "The manual recount will have a greater percentage of error than the machine recount."

The Bush camp has been arguing that there is a greater chance of error in manual recounts and I would think so. These ballots will be touched and passed by many hands in order to record the "correct" vote. Each time these ballots are passed around and handled actually INCREASES Bush's chance of winning. Let me explain....

They are only counting in heavily democratic counties; areas where Gore beat Bush by a huge margin. If we assume that the error is greater for manual recounts, the Bush team should just sit back and wait. If an error is made, it would be made more frequently for Gore rather than Bush. In other words, it is more likely that a Gore ballot will be placed in the wrong pile. It is more likely that a chad will fall out of a Gore ballot thereby invalidating it. If the margin of error were assumed to be LESS for manual recounts, then Gore would have the advantage.

No one knows for sure what the margin of error is for the manual count but you can bet it is far greater than the machine. There are two things the Bush team needs to do now 1. Make sure there is no funny business going on in those recount rooms and 2. do not let a recount happen in ANY of the predominatly Bush counties.

Once again, ignorance prevails. Unless there is cheating, Bush cannot lose.
