My wife watched the oral arguments on TV and was not impressed with the Florida Supreme Court. She commented that a couple jurors didn't seem to grasp the issues and asked questions that were totally off the wall (every court seems to have a few of those). She also commented that several seemed more interested in the politics of the situation than in the legal issues. In fact she said that there really wasn't a lot of discussion of the actual legal issues. According to her the Democratic argument seemed to hinge around what was "fair" and they totally ignored the legal issues, which is not surprising I suppose since the law clearly supports the Republican position. In the next several days I suppose we shall learn how many of the members of the Florida Supreme Court are willing to do what the law requires them to do, and how many are "third rate political hacks". LOL I'm guessing that the hacks outnumber the jurists....

Shouldn't it be a random problem, favoring both candidates equally
The main thing that seems to be understood about these ballot errors is the location of the machines. It is biased. For a variety of reasons, mostly due to speed of counting, the punch card machines are in the democratic precincts. The error at each machine may be random, but the placement of the machines is not random.

FYI - It looks like Gore may not have as big of totals as thought. Imagine that, Bush ruins the credibility of the precinct workers, the county workers, the county judges, state judges and is attacking the supreme court, and it may be for nothing. It may be that he has enough votes without his his reckless disreguard for elections and justice.

Right. Unless we're to believe that Democrat senior citizens are more feeble than Republican senior citizens.
