And to think that none of this would have happened without the strange media behaviour that night: Calling Gore states with incredible speed; Declaring Bush states with exquisite slowness. Then, of course, the inexplicable call of Florida, when County by County polls indicated that it was to be a small Bush victory. What could they have been thinking? All those pre-election poll results were staring them in the face. What went wrong? Well, at least 2 or 3 of the networks are doing an internal investigation. We all ought to investigate ourselves from time to time to see what has, or what might go wrong... I guess, until all these investigations and inquiries are done--it will simply remain a huge mystery and a puzzle...
