Well if my beliefs put me into the camp with swisstrader, then that is where I will have to be. I think it is true that the GOP generally wants people to succeed on their merits. But I also think virulent racists tend to ally themselves with the GOP much more than they do with the Democrats. So the GOP becomes guilty by association.

When Bush visited Bob Jones University and casually dismissed the valid concerns against public funding of the Confederate Flag, he once again confirmed to many blacks the presence of a racist GOP streak. I do not claim that streak actually exists. I only mention here what I think is the perception of many blacks. I think it is because of this singular perception that blacks run toward the Democrats. It has little to do with the average black identifying fundamentally with Democrat politics. Heck, I think the average black is as ignorant of politics as is the average white, and this includes issues surrounding Affirmative Action.
