Bosco by tax law they have to distribute 95% of their taxable income b/4 their year end (or else the fund pays a tax at its "corporate" level and the shareholder still pays the tax on distribution). Since in most cases the dividend is automatically reinvested shareholders never notice until they recieve the 1099 in January.

I have not known of a fund to not distribute their taxable gains (I'm sure its happened but its the exception not the rule).
