Sheesh. Muchas Gracias. I have printed out your post, it will obviously be a big help.

I'll probably try it at some point. If it's as stable as I've heard, I'm sure I will.

Thanks again,
Frank

Question to the board : I recently updated to Internet Explorer 5.5 and I'm now getting a message when I try to update my TC2000 charts "Error in loading DLL". I also find when I click on a link in a message on a message board it doesn't work. The Dell technician said I may have to back up all my files and reformat my entire system. This seems rather drastic. Is there an easier way I can overcome this DLL problem. Thanks.

mr mark,

My copy of W2000 pro arrived a week ago, and I have been slowly putting a dual boot system in order. I used a couple of the resource links you suggested and they were a big help.

I moved W98SE off my C:\ drive (with DriveImage) and partitioned the drive in half. Then I restored the image onto C:\, and began the install of W2000 onto the new partition.

I got hung up here because I forgot one thing: when restoring an image onto a smaller-than-original partition with DriveImage 2.0, you have to tell the program to adjust the 'size' of the image. I think the new versions do this automatically, but I'm not sure. The image restored ok, and it worked ok, but W2000 wouldn't install next to a nominal 30 Gig image on a 15 Gig partition.

Anyhow, after I caught on to that one, everything was very smooth. It's so stable that things rarely hang, and if something does hang I don't have to reboot. I now save time by using Stand By many times, instead of shutting down. I would always completely shut down with W98 just to make sure I would start the next session without any glitches.

My copy was $174.99 which I found through Yahoo shopping. The build is 5.0.2195, same as yours, but the number on the cd case is "1099 Part No X04-99181". It comes with high encryption on a floppy, performs a full install, and appears to be the full retail box.

I am extremely pleased, thanks for your help.

Frank
