I agree with you, though "i have no doubt that some wrong thinking palestinians are in some ways responsible for the death of their children at the hands of the israelis" is a very mild rebuke for the behavior I criticized. You may be the first here who has been so daring as to utter words of criticism, however tentative, for the Palestinians.

The Israelis are behaving absolutely execrably too. I acknowledge that I can understand their fear of that kindergarten-inculcated hatred, and determination not to trust anything but power to keep them from being pushed into the sea. This doesn't mean I approve of their bloody, provocative behavior or that I think the settlements shouldn't be dismantled immediately or defend military strikes in civilian areas.

The sacrifice by the (poor, mainly) Palestinians of their children makes me think of soemthing Ho Chi Minh said during the Vietnam war. "You will kill ten of us for every one of yours and you will tire of it first."

Of course the Israelis can't pack up and go home they way we did. So what they'll do when they can stomach no more killing is, presumably, to effect a partition. They will be hated for that, too. I fear they will be hated by the Palestinians for anything they do short of marching into the sea. Is it unreasonable to think they, too, fear this? That fear is about survival. It is not paranoid of the Jews to have such a fear.

Of course.
