You can bet that the Republican controlled Florida state legislature is
going to resolve this election morasse during the next session.


I certainly hope all jurisdictions take another look at how we vote. Clearly the Florida law and procedures weren't thunk through. I have no reason to believe that Florida is alone.

One of the things I learned from this is the sorry state of voting equipment. I can't remember back to when I used a paper ballot. It never occurred to me that any town large enough to have more than one gas station voted with paper ballots. I have a friend who insists that all jurisdictions should have the latest equipment to avoid this kind of problem. I doubt it's cost effective to invest in fancy voting machines that get used only every four years and almost never require this degree of accuracy. Better to put a computer in a school than in a voting machine, IMO.

Then there's the matter of voter fraud. Procedures for absentee voting are geared to avoiding fraud at the risk of disenfranchizing some voters. Will that change, or not?

It will be interesting to see how the lessons learned play out between now and the next election.
