You mistakenly thought I was defending McCarthy's techniques. I made no such claim. I don't support what anti-war activists did in the Vietnam War (like berate veterans), but they were right in their cause.

McCarthy was right that there were communists in government and other places. Not just sympathizers, but spies.

Oppenheimer gave away atomic secrets and was a spy.

Harry Hopkins in FDR's administration was a spy.

Alger Hiss was a spy.

Harry Dexter White in the Treasury was a spy.

The Rosenbergs were as guilty as hell. (Sorry to hurt a liberal sensitive spot)
