In the total scheme of things, and even including the Crusades and the Spanish Inquisition, totalitarianism is bloodier. That may be due to greater technological efficiency, but I do not think that is the only explanation.....

Possibly the most ignorant statement I've read here. Serbia and any pick of countries in West and Central Africa could serve as an example. Also, don't forget the death penalty. So called Chrisitians are voted into this office, swearing their faith on the bible, and hand out executions. The state does not grant life, nor should it be allowed to take it away. Visitors to St. Peter's Basillica in Rome always comment about the extravagance of gold and jewels, priceless artwork, and so forth. Where do you think the Chruch obtained these pieces- war and savagery. Religion in the US has taken on political significance. No longer does it provide a sanctuary for the troubled, those who seek to fufill their promise with the guidance of a higher authority. It's entered into politics and is forcibly implementing its facist tactics for everyone.
