Hi Dave B; I still think that Gore takes it. But of course I'm not the most optimistic "tool in the shed," so I also think that having Bush get it wouldn't be a very good thing for the Republicans. In fact, since the party that loses the prez typically picks up seats in the midterm elections, you would think that the Republican and Democratic party officials in the House and Senate would be thinking about ways of gracefully arranging for the other party to win the Presidency.

There is a vague report on CNN about a "{disturbance}" down in Florida. Some Republicans apparently rioted, but CNN's links to the information don't exist. I have to wonder what is going on. I guess I'll have to go look for a more complete description somewhere else, it's almost like CNN is suppressing a better description. I've got a feeling that the fringe right wing is going to get nasty over this, and the right wing is always more effective at this than the left. Given that the country is suffering unprecedented peace and prosperity, I don't see what all the big deal is about, but a lot of people are really taking this to heart.

We saw something today I have never seen in my life: a {disturbance} among Republicans in Miami. You don't see Republicans do that very much that we should fail to notice. That's because buttons are being pushed to create outrage. I'm not saying it's all cynical. I think they are angry. But I'm saying that those feelings are deep and they are intense.

Today, however, there have been a lot of developments. In Miami-Dade ... Republican observers had a big {confrontation} with police that looked pretty ugly on our air. The Miami-Dade canvassing board subsequently decided not to hold its recount -- to just cancel it.
...
The Gore people feel very strongly -- and they say this very emphatically -- that they believe that the Republicans are trying to intimidate the officials in Miami-Dade... that that {disturbance} was no accident, and that there was a direct relationship between the decision by the canvassing board and the {disturbance} that took place this morning.
