OT: Victor, The punch card system can be still used as follows: After the holes are punched the voter places the card into another slot which reads the card and scans for errors. Say chads are not punched through or say, two votes were made for president. Next the voter must individually certify by signing the card, or punching a "yes" that he or she has certified that the vote was made according to the voter's wishes. This can be done in the next election ot in a run-off.

And no one knows what type of inexpensive network appliance will be on the market in 2004. Also, the 100-year old voting booths should be replaced. In any case, I imagine the Justice Department will send officials in to watch the Florida vote in the next election! I bet in Seminole County, the election officials won't be allowed to invite Republicans in to fill out absentee ballots as they did in this past election, according to PBS last night. This report was also published in The New York Times on Nov. 22: NYTimes, (Page A20) says Gore is concerned not only about the butterfly ballots but about "a high error rate among Democratic minority voters in some counties, and the practice of allowing Republican workers in Seminole County to correct applications for absentee ballots by Republicans." (ggg) The 2000 US Presidential Election has been the best TV entertainment that I've seen in a very long time! We laugh and laugh when we watch the evening news!
