Karen, they didn't come right and blatantly say they were targeting military votes. That would have been stupid!!
But the effect is the same, nonetheless. And Newt was accurately pointing out that this was not targeted at liberal Jewish voters from Israel, since it would be quite apparent that they would have the proper postmarks.

That's right, they didn't come right out and say it. It's fair to say that they "probably intended" it, but it is LYING to say that they said it. Gingrich lied.

Mr. Gingrich replied that you can see the Democratic plan in this: They issued a five-page memo on how to knock out military votes, which they assume lean Republican.

There was no five-page memo on how to throw out the absentee ballots from Israel, which they assume lean Democratic.

Further, it's provocative for the Reps to lie so vociferously in a way that was "probably intended" to incite the hyper-patriot nut cases.

And one more thing, the implication that the vote of a serviceman, however much we appreciate him, is worth more than the vote of a blue-haired lady really offends me. Our laws say that all votes are officially equal. The flag-waving party has no business undermining that.
