aFrank Re,,In the past, all that extra speed was important because the software that was being used by the average schmoe ran better on faster chips. Now, the speed has gotten ahead of the software, except for gamers. <<

In the past, high mhz computers used to cost a lot extra. Now you can buy a ghz computer for $150 over a Celly; which comes out to a 10% extra cost for a 30% performance increase. Most of the higher costs of a speedier computer are related to better HD. better monitor, more mem. etc.

BTW, I have been critical of Intel for engaging in this silly speed war. The 1.13 fiasco was one result, and the jury is still out on the p4 launch.

Of course it was silly for Intel, but it was necessary for AMD. AMD looks like they will easily have a decent 4q-00 CC. Intel's looks shakey. If you combine a lackluster 4q-00 with declining market share, margins and ASP's along with a poor P4 intro.; you can bet that Ashok will soon look like a fool with his roadkill prediction.

How many buyers in the PC market read all these benchmarks that are posted all over these threads?

More than you think apparently, as AMD's share of the high end desktop sales are over 40%. Peter Luc has been reporting of high AMD sales in Germany. AMD has been increasing its market share because of word of mouth, not because of a massive advertising budget.

If they do, why the hell is AMD stock so stagnant? Why is AMD apparently the first company in the history of the world to be so hugely more advanced than its only real competitor, and no one sees it except for AMD mod thread posters? <<<<<<<

AMD's stock is stagnant because of market conditions. In fact AMD dropped a lot less than many other tech. stocks; as the sox has dropped 15% YTD and AMD is up by 20 % YTD. And rumors of an impending price war, along with Ashok's roadkill statement, have hurt AMD's price, and it is too soon to evaluate P4's impact, or lack of. Once the no.s are in, for the 4q. then take a look.

"So, there are just a few days left 'til the world welcomes a new DDR era."

It's a whole new beginning and the best INTC can offer is a next generation P4 with less than the previous generation's performance capabilities...frank, I'm really surprised that you can't see the reversal in company fortunes that are currently taking place...AMD in ascendancy, and INTC, well, let's just say not in ascendancy!!!
