James, Please explain to me why the machine punched every other vote just fine but did not work for the presidential vote? Is that the only part of the machine that was broken? Perhaps these people did not like either candidate for president and chose not to vote. This whole situation is completely out of control. The American people are not stupid (at least 1/2 of them anyway) and it is obvious what is going on. Gore claims he stands for family values. What kind of value is this that a man can not stand up and congratulate the one who has beat him in a competition. What kind of example is this to try to win at any cost, that twisting the law is okay. The young people who compete in the Olympics year after year follow this simple rule and Gore should be ashamed of himself. cog

Jim, very well said. It seems that partisan pundits want to deny one side their legal rights. This will, and should be decided by the courts. In 1961 a study was done and the study concluded that the punchcard ballots had too many errors to be used in elections. Almost forty years later nothing has been done. The manufacturer states only that they are 99% accurate. This is simply not accurate enough to decide a close election. While I would never vote for Bush, I have no problem with him being elected if it is as fair as it can be made to be. I resent the constant stream of accusations that Gore is trying to steal the election when he is exercising his legal rights. It is a disgrace the way the Republicans rioted in Dade County to the point where workers had to be escorted in and out by the police and George Bush, to my knowledge, has never made a public statement condemning such actions.
