hi rick,

personally, i have no feedback on netscape 6.0. i have it sitting there on my desktop, waiting to be installed. i know i'll get around to it, but i'm just sorta' biding my time. another thread member, biggie smalls, has it up and running, i think.

but lots of people are reviewing the new browser, rick. here are two such reviews.... #reply-14853573 , and yet another that just came in today's email

infinisource.com

are you going to install it?

:)

i've been using it off and on since it was released.

IE is still my main browser. i use NSCP6 to compare pages for browser incompatibilities.

i find NSCP6 to be a little slow. i know that the Gecko rendering engine is supposed to be quick but all of the stuff that netscape has wrapped around it makes the entire package feel sluggish. it takes about twice as long to start up as IE and pages load either as quick or slower than IE.

page rendering is much better than 4.7x versions and i see almost no difference when comparing with IE. also, i like the ability to skin the browser. the skinning technology with NSCP6 is far superior to any that i've seen with IE. the "My Sidebar" feature is interesting but i have it turned off most of the time. i like to keep most of my screen real estate dedicated to the pages themselves.

finally, NSCP6 has crashed on me once. by comparison, 4.7x would crash at least once a day.

bottom line: NSCP6 is more stable and lays out pages better than it's predecessors but IE is quicker and lays out pages just as well.

btw, i have a PIII-450, 256MB RAM, Matrox Millennium G400 with a DSL connection so i don't think that any speed issues i have are due to hardware limitations.

cheers,
big
