Roger, good comments. I have similar thoughts about the public's reaction
to whatever the outcome of this faustian play. In PA no
one would bother rioting in favor of either of these paper mache clowns. Many area democrats have become so disgusted
at the process that they hope bush is put in charge and gets
what he asked for...(interesting times).
regards

"A constitutional amendment to that effect will be the Democrat party platform in 2002. One person, one vote, all votes counted and all votes equal, that will be the slogan and will fuel a huge win."

All that would have to happen is get 38 states to ratify it, with the smaller states effectively disenfranchising themselves from the process. There are 17 states with 5 or less electoral votes, and 29 with less than 10. Good luck getting 17 of them to agree to let the people of CA, NY, TX, FL, IL,PA and OH run the country.

Regards,

Barb

Roger, remember the WTO meeting in Seattle last summer? No one including local authorities and the FBI had expected the intensity of the protests and the chaos, lootings that followed. There're a lot more people who take issue with the presidential controversy than the WTO. There're just too many nuts running loose. And there's never a shortage of opportunists to take part in lootings.

Hope for the best but prepare for the worst.

Regards,

Tom

If none of the other points convince you that the idea of going to a straight popular vote won't fly, just consider the implications of a nationwide recount. Take all the tension, ill will, backbiting, charges and countercharges flying around in Florida right now, and make all fifty states and DC join in the fun! Wouldn't that be great?? Not to mention the practical elimination of the chance that a dispute such as the current one might be resolved by Inauguration Day.

Sounds like a perfect Democrat proposal, actually. Do what feels good and ignore what it actually accomplishes.
