I do too, though I wouldn't call it "interference." That may seem a contradiction to my posts when this mess began but it's not. When I first wrote that I didn't want the courts deciding whether or not my vote counts, the context was that at the time there was a lot of ranting and raving about having a revote in Palm Beach County. I thought it was wrong for the courts to allow a revote and it was scary to think that such a decision might get to the courts. I'm pleased with the way the courts have essentially let the state's laws and common sense prevail. About the latter, the state Supreme Court took into account critical timing issues that ensure that a vote be certified in time for the electoral college to do its thing. I think the Justices used the law to do as they saw fit to abide by the spirit of Florida law and I also think it's appropriate that it be contested in the federal Supreme Court. I think that because the entire process also is the law. That's why I don't think any of this is "interference." Instead, it's the process our laws set forth. I don't know that any of the decisions that have been made by the courts are right or wrong. For me, it's sad that almost everyone has an opinion about that based almost entirely on how they voted. If the situations were reversed, the candidates would be reversed and so would the people who voted for them. It reminds me of investors who always ask why a stock is going down but never ask why it's going up. I think it's sad that both candidates continue to show such a lacking in leadership. Since uncle west mentioned stuff about Gore to support my view, I'll add that it was very unpresidential for Bush to make a personal mockery of Florida's Supreme Court. He should have had the class to say, "We think the decision is wrong. We respect the authority of the Court and we also respect our right to appeal it in a higher court." But he didn't. Having seen "Contender" last night, I'm convinced that we need actors and script writers filling the role of the president, not as Reagan did but as actors and script writers do. They'd have a better chance at "appearing" presidential than our presidents do. --Mike Buckley
