harry, I'd bet the Realworldtech article is more up-to-date, so that the P4 ramp is only modestly faster than originally intended.

One screwdriver shop in San Diego offered P4 systems this week. But Datel, a formerly Intel-only company with 3 large stores, ONLY advertised Athlons. A complete 180 degree reversal in two months.

No big retailers advertised P4's. I was in Best Buy but forgot to look for either P4's or DDR Athlon systems. Three of the 7AM to 12N day-after-Thanksgiving sales flyers included Duron and Athlon systems at very good prices -- the kind of deals that surely run out after about an hour.
