An election is not over until all the votes are counted. The certification is illegitimate because thousands of votes in Dade County and Palm Beach County were not counted; votes in Nassau County will illegally not included; and votes in Palm Beach County for Gore were disregarded. This election is not over until the court rules on the contest. Democrats support Al Gore in his quest for justice.

Did the GOP ever back off of Clinton out of respect for the best interests of the country?

The dems had no guts. For the good of the country, which became the laughing stock worldwide, Clinton should have resigned.

No, and it's a good thing. slick willy had huge budget deficits projected out to 02. The Republicans forced him to adopt their agenda and the budget deficits were reduced to where, thru smoke and mirrors, gov't claims a surplus. However, there is no surplus as the deficits are hidden in various trust funds. Hence, the national debt has grown to $5.7 trillion from $4 trillion, despite the more strict fiscal discipline of the Republican congress.knc
