Why did Carol Roberts & Company take off on Thanksgiving, when Broward kept on counting??? I didn't read in the opinion of the Florida SC that taking Thanksgiving off from counting was a reasonable excuse to miss the 5 pm deadline.

Did you?

PT- Bush stole this election-pure and simple. Politics and usual. But Bush's hands will be so tied in dealing with Congress. Slim majority in Congress, 50-50 ties in Senate. (This will change even more Democratic in 2 yrs) Bush will be pushed even more to the center. He will accomplish extremely little. Gridlock. This is a good thing. The Dems won't get the spending they want and Bush won't get the tax cuts he wants. Which means the surplus will be used to pay down debt-the best thing possible. The real question is the Supreme Court. Will he want to use up the very little capital he has to push a Scalia, or will he go for a more moderate? Probably his first he'll get a Scalia, but after that it'll be war if he doesn't go with a centralist. Anyway, Bush will be a 1 term president.

In short, it's a bag job!

I'm really amused by the fact that the GOP didn't "steal" the election, the Dems blew it with their own incompetence. It was a Dem who came up with the butterflies in Palm Beach. It was Dems in Palm Beach and Dade who couldn't manage, over a period of 19 or 20 days, to complete a recount (Broward and Volusia somehow seemed to be able to do it).

Ultimately, this election will boil down to judge(s), and or court assignees, counting ballots.

Sorry, but that's not correct. This is high stakes political poker and the GOP has the two aces in the hole, the Florida Legislature and control of the US House of Representatives. Gore can drag this out and make it mean, nasty and ugly, but he can't win. Them's the facts.
