While I think Gore should have conceded - for the sake of the country, his position
that all votes be counted is a hard one to argue with.

If this is really his belief, why hasn't he also sued all the Republican counties (about 2/3 of Florida's counties voted Republican) to insist that they do hand recounts too?

His "position" that "all" votes be counted is fraudulent. What his position is that every vote that might be a vote for him should be recounted and re-recounted and re-re-recounted using increasingly liberal standards until his Democrat-controlled canvassing boards can finally find enough votes to overcome the Bush lead.

I read the Boies news conference. Was disappointed that not a single reporter asked Boies "Mr. Boies, if it is your position that every vote should be counted, why have you not also sued for recounts in the Republican dominated counties?" I would have enjoyed seeing how he weasel-mouthed his way out of that one.

But of course a liberal press would never ask such a question, and Drudge wasn't invited to the press conference.

If the Repbulicans hadn't stood in the way of these counts this would all be done with. More importantly this is a very close election and Florida the closest contested state. The Republicans - rather than fighting for a recount should have supported a total state recount at the outset.

That position is absurd and here's why:

1.) We would be exactly where we are now. Protesting the outcome of the election except it would be a week earlier and Algor would be sitting on a miniscule lead and pretending that counting 4 counties was fair.

2.) Your argument portends that what Gore has done is fair, and that it is now the person who is winning the election is to argue, petition, and otherwise sue to protect his lead.

3.) He could have just as easily done exactly what he is doing now had he kept his mouth shut and protested the election in a proper way to the State of Florida since this was a statewide election. All he has done is waste time and money.

What SHOULD HAVE HAPPENED was Al Gore petitioning THE STATE OF FLORIDA to recount the whole state by hand. You can't blame the republicans for defending themselves against the democrat choice county theft tactics.

The position that all votes should be counted is pure posturing. Across the country tens of thousands of ballots are not counted, for varying reasons, as determined by each state. We have a snapshot of the election process in Florida, now extrapolate that across the other 50 states. Are you 100 percent sure your vote counted? The statistical truth is, we will never know for certain who obtained the most votes. The margin of error in either machine or hand counts is more than the margin of victory. We can of course go across the country looking for each and every disqualified ballot, but that will take us into the next election. We have to live with the results we have now. Perfect no, but it is all we have.
