I don't believe there has been any request for a re-count outside of those counties first identified by Gore. Or did I miss something? Bush had plenty of time and instead decided that the better approach is to fight/discredit the recount effort. While Gore was fighting to have votes counts (at least those that he though would help him and note that some counties produced more votes for Bush) Bush was fighting to have votes NOT counted. As a Republican that disgusts me...

You have no idea how refreshing it is to see that a Republican realizes - and says - what has occurred. You are the rare one who can.

How can you disagree with Bush's stance? These hand recounts have been requested by the Gore campaign in counties that are predominantly Democrat with Democratic controlled canvassing boards that decide if a manual recount will occur and ultimately make the decision on disputed ballots.

Now it appears that the Gore campaign is fighting to not count some absentee ballots for Bush that have already been counted.

No, there was no Bush request for a recount. His position all along has been that the election ended, he was ahead, there was a recount, he was still ahead, the deadline for certification came, he was still ahead, that's it. Requesting hand recounts would have been inconsistent with that, and he at least has had the virtue of consistency in his position, whatever you may think of it.

Gore, OTOH, has claimed that every vote should be counted, that statutory deadlines shouldn't stand in the way of that, but that all the voters should have their votes counted. But he doesn't act on that claim. That's his (and Lieberman's) hypocrisy. I expect that from Gore. It's very disappointing from Lieberman, who used to be a man of integrity and honesty. We have few enough of those in the political arena that to watch the destruction of one is very sad.
