Elmer, <I noticed you had no comment on the results Tom saw when using Intel's compiler, even on Athlon.>

There is an effort going on by AMD supporters to try and optimize the source code of the MPEG4 encoder for Athlon. I think a lot of them were discomforted by the notion that simple recompiles can produce huge performance gains for Pentium 4.

I think Scumbria is waiting for the fruits of these efforts before commenting on this subject again. Of course, such efforts resemble the recount efforts going on in Florida, with one side trying desperately to make the results look good for their cause.

Elmer,

I noticed you had no comment on the results Tom saw when using Intel's compiler, even on Athlon. It blows your excuses out of the water about the compiler being designed just to make Intel processors look good on SPEC.

There are lots of things I dfon't comment on. The fact that Intel has spent a lot of time optimizing their compiler for SPEC and other applications does not mean that the P4 microarchitecture is any better than it was previously.

Re: I noticed you had no comment on the results Tom saw when using Intel's compiler

The P4 optimzed FlasK results that wowed Tom:
          Original Optimized
P4 1.5GHZ 3.83 14.03
P3 1GHZ 4.39 8.03
Athlon 1.2GHZ 6.43 11.14

Now here are Athlon optimzied results using Microsoft VC++ - a real commercial compiler:
                   Original Optimized
Athlon 550 3.10 8.13
Athlon 1.2GHZ DDR 6.85 17.75

Face it, the Athlon is a better chip.

The SCUM is coming to the surface.

As part of the PAY OFF for Clinton's White House royal SCREWING of Microsoft, Larry Ellison is hiring former Clinton Staff Members.

This is the reward for a job well done - Politics at its ugliest.

Anybody think Larry Ellison wasn't one of the Prime Movers at getting CLinton's Cronies to stick it to Microsoft?

Elmer,

Here is the latest on the Flask benchmark, which proved the great superiority of your beloved Willy:

the 1.5 GHz Pentium 4 and the 1.2 GHz Athlon (DDR) are about equal in this benchmark
