Well, Ok, but Re: "...will have a hard time recognizing the legitimacy of either candidate, regardless of who wins. That's especially a problem for GWB because of the fact that 300,000 more people voted for the other guy. If you think about it, that's a sizeable number of people."

Not only is it obvious that 300,000 is small...a virtual dead heat election...but the polls differ from your prognosis.

More Democrats polled as saying Bush would be legit if he wins, than said that Gore would be if he does. If the siding with Bush on this point were just a single point, it would be striking, but it was more than that, whatever it was. Striking, but true. Striking, but understandable, IMO.

The polls indicate the opposite is true. Given the present situation Gore would be a total flop. Bush has a better chance of limping out of this. His wounds will help him keep the right wing element of the republican party in check. Bush with substantial majorities in the House and Senate and a solid victory would have been a problem. Bush pushed closer to the center is the best solution.

Gore has proven himself to the left of Clinton.

Flapjack,

At least you still retain the belief that concession is an honorable thing to do, unlike Gore.

Let me dispel a couple of things first:

1. However, you must understand that if the U.S. Supreme Court sides in favor of Gore, then those poll numbers will flip-flop, and Bush will then be called on to concede.

No I do not understand where you're coming from. The only case in front of the USSC is the question of FLASC action in extending the deadline... was it rewriting the Law? Even if Bush losses this one the result that was certified Sunday will stand since that is mandated by a "legitimate" FLASC order. On the other hand, if Bush wins... the result of the machine count of Nov 14 + absentee ballot will stand. Do you see where Bush can lose here that I don't see? Why would he be called upon to concede?

2. That's especially a problem for GWB because of the fact that 300,000 more people voted for the other guy. If you think about it, that's a sizeable number of people.

Easy enough to explain... Gore won by that much in NY. By extrapolation, you can say Gore won NY and Bush won in all the other states combined... now is that too hard? :))
