Well, breaking their promise to get rid of the GST didn't lose them any seats in Ontario ... and when Nunziata said hey guys this is wrong, we promised, they booted him out of caucus, now he just lost his seat, they set the machine against him.

Same with free trade, remember how they ranted against that until they'd swept Mulroney out? ... but we still have it, and have since extended it to México, soon to Chile.

Both of which i agree with, btw, free trade and the GST ... a value-added tax is far superior to taxing income, most countries have them now, the VAT in the UK and NZ etc, the IVA in México ... just looking strictly at the motivation aspects, it is more productive [or better - less destructive] to tax consumption than to tax income ... a pain in the ass to those in business who must calculate and collect it without pay, but relatively more progressive imho.

But point being, a Liberal promise is not worth much, especially out west where really essentially they do not give a damn, they don't need us, don't like us, don't want us.
