<<You conjecture that the phone might be equipped with the MSM1000. I hope so. I also am hopeful that it will be equipped with the MSM5000, even if 1xMC is not yet available on Verizon or Sprint PCS.>>

I think we can safely assume the new Kyocera Palm device will be equipped with the MSM5000(1x) ASIC. Kyocera said availability is 1Q 2001 and Q predicted MSM5000 availability 4Q 2000. Since Sprint and Verizon should be primary markets for the Kyocera device and both have announced 1X plans in 2001, it only makes sense they will want 1X ASICs in all the phones they subsidize. The fact that MSM3000 and MSM5000 are pin compatible should assist timely development.

Your other hope that they will use the MSP1000 is trickier. I wonder if it has adequate processing power, etc, to be used with a Palm OS device and how it compares to the MOT processor that goes into the Palm Vx? Anyone know? Qualcomm claims the "MSP1000 chipset supports the most popular third-party operating systems" which would seem to include Palm OS but they don't name it and they don't make any claims that it is more powerful than other solutions. Of course battery life and low-cost is more important than pure power in a handset application. Maybe the MSP1000 is optimized for these qualities. Anyone know?

Is there a chance that this processor, or one of it's off-spring, could be a big success in applications other than handsets?
