Niceguy, there are remarkable changes on today's processor top 10 bestseller list of K&M Elektronik. I have never seen Intel doing so well (3 entries) and I have never seen the Duron doing so poorly. For example, the Duron 800, which used to be the number 3 on the list, is gone today. Nevertheless, AMD still leads by a comfortable margin (7:3 entries, occupying all 5 top spots). Here is the list: kmelektronik.de 1 AMD ATHLON K7 900 Thunderbird 2 AMD DURON 700 3 AMD K6-2 500 4 AMD ATHLON K7 800 Thunderbird 5 AMD ATHLON K7 1000 Thunderbird 6 INTEL PENTIUM MMX 233 7 INTEL PENTIUM III 800EB FCPGA 133MHz 8 AMD K6-2 550 9 AMD ATHLON K7 700 Thunderbird 10 INTEL PENTIUM III 650E FCPGA 100MHz A few remarks: * The Athlon 900 currently holds the 3rd place on the general top 10 list, the Duron 700 is number 7. * The price for the Athlon 900 is increasing steadily. * The Athlon 1000 is slowly moving up. * It almost hurts physically to see the Pentium MMX 233 on the list :) * The K6-2 550 costs almost the same as the Duron 750. * I never understood why AMD created the Duron line. They should sell cheaper Athlons with 700 to 800 MHz instead. Everybody knows Athlon, nobody knows Duron. Even for the cheaper Athlons on the low end you could charge substantially higher prices than for the Durons, which you have to give away almost for nothing, thereby cannibalizing the Athlon sales and dragging down the ASP.
