Gore lost whites by 8% and white males by a whopping 21%. Why isn't he doing better with whites?

Sorry about putting words in your mouth. I read too much into statements at times, and was confused by your statistical analogy of the low support for GWB among blacks.

My question is why do you feel so many more blacks (5 times as many percentage wise) that have been exposed to GWB's leadership voted for him than those that have not been exposed to it?

I think it makes a pretty good case that he is a fair minded person who is not prejudice against any minorities. It also makes a decent case that some of the black leaders have their own agenda, and it is served by pitting people against each other.

Also flapjack, your statement

"As I pointed out the other day, with more African-Americans rising to middle class, wouldn't it be reasonable to assume that more blacks would be voting Republican?"

is an interesting viewpoint, but I would suggest that the HUGE increase in blacks voting for GWB that have seen his leadership is more telling than the low percentage who mostly get their impressions of GWB through secondary sources.

As I pointed out the other day, with more African-Americans rising to middle class, wouldn't it be reasonable to assume that more blacks would be voting Republican? Ain't happening. Why?

Flap the reason is crystal clear. The rise to the middle class of blacks has been through government jobs and affirmative action which are clearly tied to the Democrat party. The graduation roles of blacks are primarily in the social sciences and that means you need government to grow in order to get hired.
What would be very interesting would be to see the voting record of blacks who have gone in the direction of business. I suspect that there one would see a more balanced vote.
