Hi Solon,

<<the Liberals jumped right into their slipstream>>
Yep, in the style of Bill Gates and Microsoft.

<<public accounting>>
Auditor general reports come out and they are always negative, but ....

<<To not do so would be political suicide for the Liberal political juggernaut.>>
I can see the spin next time. Vote for us the only national party. Otherwise you will have a coalition government like Italy, Israel ..... That'd scare the crap out of people.

<<But the public knows what they are worth, don't they?>>
Evidently not LOL.

<< The Liberals have mocked the public with their lies and dismissiveness >>
Well I hope you are right, although I am not optimistic on this issue.

regards
Kastel

'Twas always thus - unemployment insurance and universal healthcare were entirely CCF proposals, the CCF was never in power or even close, but they sold their policies well and then the Liberals robbed them when they saw the public interested.

There may come from them some degree of rationalisation toward Alliance policy now, but it won't be near as good as a genuine shake-up.

Hmmmm...when looking at the map, the liberal red covers the welfare areas of the country....oops, excuse me, the politically correct term is "beneficiary"

FWIW my prediction for the immediate future is as follows: the liberals won the election by making promises of huge wealth transfers to the maritimes and central canada. Cretien gets his name in the record book for pacifying the slime at CBC with three majority wins so his payback to the "faithful"in Ontario will be to teach those "nasty Alberta oil companies" a lesson. Cretien will retire in less than 2 years so expect a carbon tax (ala NEP), a national day care program (more government jobs and liberal votes), a few more inquiries and some increased beaurocracy to "heal" the healthcare problems, a monument or two for Trudeau, several hotels and a few more missing billions to pay off the liberal pigs of patronage. Gun control (read citizen control) will be enforced with more and tougher penalties. So called hate crime laws will be overzealously enforced and used as a means to socially engineer free speech and manipulate public perception of tolerance and compassion.
There will a renewed interest in western seperation based on a building animosity towards a province that would re elect the likes of Shiela Copps and Jane Stewart.
And the CBC budget will be increased because they will invent a new "need" for themselves in informing the masses about the "real" threat of the west.
Oh, and don't forget the good things the government will do, such as the entrenchment of a few more charter rights like posession of kiddie porn and taxpayer funded sex changes.
The future is indeed very bright.
