On Aug 26, when KEM was over $26 per share, KEM announced they would buyback up to 4 million shares. The CEO then said, referring to $26 per share, "We feel that the current market price of our stock undervalues both the current and long-term earnings potential of the Company and presents an attractive investment opportunity for both the Company and its shareholders," and "The outlook for the electronics industry is the best we have seen in 40 years."

The balance sheet will be no less solid if KEM buys back shares. It will stabilize the stock price and be a damn good investment. By the way, I am holding on to my shares of KEM since I believe that a company with a good balance sheet is likely to weather the storms ahead and come out "smelling like a rose" when there is a better economic climate.

Fiddling While Rome Burns Department:

The spread play between KEM and VSH has proved nicely profitable several times, so I tried it again this morning in my IRA (no tax consequences). First I sold 5K of KEM at 19. As I was about to order 4700 VSH at 20 1/8, it slipped a little, so I watched it. When it got to 19 I bought 5K. A spreadless switch between KEM and VSH seems kind of like the hat trick in hockey. I'll look for a 2 1/2 to 3 point widening before I switch back. Or I'll just stick with VSH.
