Did you ever think of naming a child or pet a
name you simply like?

--cmb,

"Did you ever think of naming a child or pet a name you simply like?"

Did that with the first daughter, Sherri, spelling and all.

Other than that, no.

I screwed up on that one too, since I have since had secretary's named Shari and Cherri. I need a contact manager to keep the spellings straight (I'm missing a gray cell or two).

Named our first cats (RIP), 33 & 31 years ago, Fagin (after the Dick en's character when the 60's musical "Oliver" came out), and Stokely after Carmichael (it was that or Eldridge after Cleaver).

Since then my daughters have named all pets (except for Jesse) and I have had no influence on naming of grandchildren.

I guess I can understand why Che was rejected for the grandson but I was really hoping for a granddaughter named Ruth or Rachel instead of Meaghan (which I really have to spell check).

... and I never had a pet ferret, in which case ...

BTW: when you used that "wireless" AT&T "InFlight" Air Radio Telecommunication Unit, did you think that the retractable cord was to prevent you from stealing the ARTU?

BTW2: Did the ARTU have a magnetic stripe slot reader or were you on a DC-3 in which case you had a very old ARTU, and maybe an analog ARTU.

BTW3: If digital did the ARTU have an RJ-11 jack for your laptop, and if so did you attempt to send an e-mail (in which case you really would have hated "wireless" cellular telephony).

BTW4: Next time you fly, you may want to pick a carrier that uses Verizon's (formerly GTE's) competetive Airfone "wireless" service with Teledyne technology.

Maybe next time you're in Brazil you can ride one of TIM's new busses and use state of the art Globalstar technology (coming soon to an air carrier near you) and do a little surfing:

>> The new News Corp.- Qualcomm venture says it can overcome some of the capacity hurdles by beaming the information up from the plane rather than down to the ground, using the satellite-based telephone system operated by Globalstar. The venture, named In-Flight Network, tested a prototype of its system on a North American flight in June.

"Making these systems work is a very serious engineering task," said Jeffrey M. Wales, the News Corp. executive named CEO of In-Flight Network. But, he added, "the time frames for launching this type of service are much more a function of airlines" making decisions on service providers "and the operational considerations to equip a fleet."

Airfone, the Verizon Communications unit that dominates the North American market, plans to test a competing service starting next month with an undisclosed airline on a few aircraft, the company told The Associated Press.

But despite the rush of high-profile ventures, including one launched by aircraft maker Boeing and an alliance led by News Corp. and Qualcomm, it should be at least a year before most airlines will offer easy Web access from the sky.
<<

Help protect our Qualcomm investments"

* Insist on Globalstar CDMA when flying.

* Buy a real "unwired" digital wireless mobile phone with "Qualcomm CDMA inside.". We need the added sub.

* Buy nothing but CDMA cell phones (with subscriptions activated prepaid or other) for Christmas gifts this year.

* Tell all your friends to buy nothing but CDMA cell phones (with subscriptions activated prepaid or other) for Christmas gifts this year.

Do you want to have me have to listen to Tero tell me that "TDMA is the worlds fastest growing digital mobile wireless technology".

... which reminds me I owe Tero a post on the unmoderated NOK board so I can screw his head back on straight again about CDMA in Japan.

Jesse is not a bad cat name; we actually considered it for use with tekbaby. Like Isaac, it fit one of criteria, being dual-use black and Jewish. The cats have more distinctive names--Bilbo, Hjalmar, and Smilla. Points to any who can figure out the origin of more than one.
