With the new SEC disclosure rules, the analyst strategy is to downgrade on every imagined doubt, and never mention any positive news. That way they still have the power.

The way it used to be, the analysts had an inside scoop on the good and bad news. Now that is no longer the case.

But the downgrades now give power, because the analyst is the only one to know s/he is going to issue it--in effect, they now only have the power of fear. Later on, they may upgrade after they have real news like you and I do.

Tell me, what has changed?
