Dan,

Looking at the reviews of P4 systems in the latest PC Magazine (compared to Athlon), one set of tests where P4 performs especially poorly is the Internet related benchmarks (I-Bench). How could that be? Didn't Intel marketing say that the Pentium 4 processor is designed with advanced technology to get the most out of today's and tomorrow's Internet.

Joe

Dan, did you see the footnote about the 1.2 running the 760 chipset?

(****Results achieved by a white-box system with 128MB of DDR DRAM, and AMD 760 chip set.)

Has this been fixed?

AMD 760 DDR chipset delayed
By: Andrew Thomas

Gigabyte has confirmed there are problems with AMD's new 760 DDR chipset, launched just two days ago and has delayed shipping its new GA-7DX mobo as a result.

A Gigabyte representative in the UK told The Reg that it was an AMD issue and that Chimpzilla was currently investigating the problem. It would be 'at least two weeks' before the severity of the problem and hence the length of the delay were known, he added. He declined to comment on the precise details of the fault.

The implication is that systems and boards are unlikely to be available until December at the earliest. The delay follows AMD's admission that SMP Athlons won't ship until the middle of next year.

Wow - the editor's choice really loses at business and internet benchmarks against the AMD white-box computer. The "Load HTML Pages" benchmark is very interesting, because I use my computer a lot to load HTML pages... and Athlon is clearly the winner here, with a factor 1.5.

With the Gateway computer at $3000, the price/performance ratio is horrible.
