Lurker Port...

At least this is where it stood yesterday:

QCOM 27%
CASH 13% (incl. QQQ & Mutual Funds)
GMST 10%
JDSU 8%
SEBL 8%
NTAP 7%
INTC 3%
MSFT 3%
CSCO 3%
ORCL 3%
EMC 3%
SUNW 3%
PMCS 3%
BRCM 3%
JNPR 3%

Biggest mistake: shiny pebbles

Biggest good thing: sticking with my commitment to dollar-cost-average in through the bearish year--so I'm up YTD on QCOM (though down, of course, on others).

Portfolio - 2000

QCOM 47%
JDSU 22%
GE 8%
SEBL 8%
MARGIN 8%
IBM 2%
CSCO 2%
NTAP 2%
MSFT 1%

Biggest mistake was not recognizing the euphoria associated with being fully invested during the biggest bubble I will probably ever see. However, having missed selling at the top and buying back in at the bottom, I have slept well this year in spite of the market's volatility. I am certain my peace of mind is the result of association with this thread. The end result of hanging in is that my portfolio is up again this year, a total of 6%. I'm pleased.

Thanks to everyone for sharing and to Apollo for making sense of it.

K~

RE: Portfolio Survey

- JZ Tech Fund holdings:

15%: QCOM
7%: SEBL, JDSU
6%: CSCO
5%: NTAP, BRCD
4%: GMST, JNPR, AVNX
3%: EMC, CREE, BRCM, NOK, SNDK
2%: PMCS, NVDA, PALM, RBAK
1%: MNMD, EFNT, EXDS, ITWO, SCMR, ORCL, RMBS, FDRY, JNIC, SSTI, WIND, TXN, VRSN, NT, CIEN, COSN, CMRC, ARBA, AMCC, CLRN, DITC

While total of 39 stocks could be a survey record, since I don't follow any single company closely, taking small position in early stage GG stocks satisfies my venturing desires but limits my losses. I'm one of those inventors who feel worse in losing opportunity than in losing money.

- My biggest mistake this year:

Instead of giving investment advice, I gave stock recommendation to a friend with little investment experience. It's hard to get over the guilty feeling of losing other people's money.

Thanks for organizing the survey!

John

FWIW, (probably not much) <g>, here's my technology portfolio as of 11/2000:

QCOM 51%*
JDSU 16%
CSCO 7%
NTAP 7%
GMST 5.5%
CREE 5.5%
SEBL 3%
GX 2%
cash 3%

*Doubled up on QCOM this summer when it hit the 50's. Have to admit, at the time, it was a scary move. Only time will tell if this was a wise decision.

Biggest mistake(s): I bought stocks in only two companies (other than QCOM) this year, SEBL and CREE. SEBL turned out to be a good investment even with the market drop. CREE, on the other hand, well, I paid too much and I'm in the red. Should have sold GX, (a stock from another life), but decided to keep it as an object lesson, at least for the time being.

Apollo, thanks for doing the survey.

My portfolio:

39.4 Cash(mutual funds)
9.5 ITWO
7.8 QCOM
7.3 NTAP
7.3 ENE
7.2 SEBL
4.0 WIND
3.5 GMST
3.5 JDSU
2.8 RBAK
2.2 DSPG
2.0 CREE
2.0 VRSN
1.5 other (NMPS, SCON, PLUG)

My biggest mistake: My first venture into buying my own stocks was PLUG in late January. I read Markman's 10,000 by 10 year picks and bought four (XLA,PLUG,SCII, and SCON). 1. I did no due diligence until after I bought them. 2. I bought momentum stocks during a speculative bubble with a plan of LTBH (10 years). I had no clue how risky this was or what this volativity would feel like after having only invested in mutual funds and stocks like Pepsi previously. 3. I did not use limit orders-- I got PLUG for an outrageous price very near it's historic high. 3. I dislike selling stocks-- now it's lost 90% of its value and the company is not expected to sell fuel cells for a profit until 2005. Thankfully I only bought 20 shares (now worth less than $300)--- I think I may just hold it to remind me: 1. Never buy profitless, pre-chasm IPO stocks as a LTBH investor. 2. Reading one article is not due diligence. 3. Always use limit orders in a rapidly rising market. 4. Stay away from momentum stocks that don't have the fundamentals to support LTBH investing.

G&K Thread Personal Portfolio Survey:

A very warm and grateful greeting to the thread from a faithful lurker in the Church of the G&K since 1-1-99.

sdli 27%
sebl 13%
ntap 13%
qcom 7%
cree 7%
emc 7%
rest is cash

Biggest mistakes:

1. Not getting on Prozac sooner
2. Telling friends and family to get into the market last Spring
3. Valuation, Valuation, Valuation!

Another Personal Portfolio: Do I really have to admit to this? I guess I have decided that a public display will help create more discipline and adherence to investment fundamentals.

CSCO 29.7%
EMC 20.0%
QCOM 14.0%
ORCL 12.4%
GMST 4.9%
cash 4.7%
NOK 3.6%
SNDK 3.3%
IATV 2.1%
TKLC 1.7%
ELON, JDSU, LDIG, LPTH, LSI, LWIRA, WIND all <1%

Biggest mistake:
After selling most of my NOK and all of LU at a very fortuitous time, I spread money around in "shiney pebbles". I put WAY too much in companies related to the ITV market (IATV, LWIRA, LDIG). After all, ITV is pre-tornado and the companies were selling at high price to vision ratios. Wish I had kept all that powder dry!!!
Happy holiday season to all.
Scott

NTAP 3%
SUNW 3%
JDSU 3%

Greatest mistake (?) buying into AWE on IPO hoping for a quick profit -- I didn't like the company or its technology, but jumped at the opportunity -- fortunately, didn't buy much. Jim

Revision to previous statement of my biggest mistake.
Not sure if this is too late for the survey, but I have changed my mind about what my biggest mistake in 2000 was. Now I believe that it was not taking steps to offset the known risks of the Gorilla game. I am going to try to explore some strategies to that end.
(edit) Finally, an up day, so far. I was feeling like I had to do something to stop the losses. It's a good thing that I didn't sell yesterday.

Portfolio as of today's close:

EMC 27%

JDSU 19%

QCOM 17%

CREE 14%

SEBL 10%

NTAP 7%

CASH 5%

Mistake: There's not much that I regret, other than maybe
being a little impatient and abandoning my investment
principles to chase a profitless shiny pebble in ELON. I
expect to eventually have a long term holding in ELON, but I
was much too early. If anything, this year reinforced the
need for patience: to not be afraid of them getting away
from me.
