I haven't read the statute so I can't say how I would interpret it. And, since I'm not an attorney I would be at the mercy of one to interpret it for me.

It is my belief that there were two conflicting statutes that were interpreted by the Supreme COurt of Florida and thus allowed the hand recount. A certification date was set by the COurt to allow ample time for contesting the election before the deadline for the election of the electors.

Let's be straight here.......both sides want to win and are doing everything in their power to legally sway the election in their favor. Gore thinks he has more votes that haven't been counted and Bush must think the same as he is trying to stop the counts.

I firmly believe that the exit polls for the networks were correct and had all the vote for Gore been counted then he would have won the state. What the networks didn't know was what happened to the votes after they were cast. And, that is the million dollar question. I believe that as Americans ( forget the partisan politics) we should all mandate a full investigation to find out what happened. It doesn't matter what side wins as long as the whole truth comes out. All legally cast votes should be counted and all illegally cast votes should be thrown out.

Can't we all as Americans agree to that?
